Since 1992, residents in the Skagit Valley have also had the option to work with the Skagit Land Trust to help protect the natural lands, open space and wildlife habitat of Skagit County for the benefit of this and future generations.  An interview with Molly Doran, Executive Director of the Skagit Land Trust.

Poking Around at Padilla Bay
One of the true gems of the North Sound is a marine estuarine reserve at Padilla Bay in Skagit County.  And, it is free to visit.  There’s a whole world waiting to be explored at this special site, and Education Coordinator Glen “Alex” Alexander takes us on a field tour of the reserve.

The City of Seattle is moving past the debate of “paper versus plastic” when it comes to shopping bags and, beginning in January 2009, will  implement a 20-cent fee per bag and begin phasing out the use of styrofoam containers. What impact might this decision have on the health of Puget Sound and is this something other communities around the Sound can take up, too.

No, not the navigational lights you might see at sea during the evening hours the annual fundraiser auction benefiting Puget Sound, Harbor Lights. Orcas in Captivity
The waters of Penn Cove were once the site of one of the largest captures of orca whales in history. Out of the 11 captured in the ‘70s, only one, “Lolita,” is alive today.
