Since 1992, residents in the Skagit Valley have also had the option to work with the Skagit Land Trust to help protect the natural lands, open space and wildlife habitat of Skagit County for the benefit of this and future generations. Poking Around at Padilla Bay
One of the true gems of the North Sound is a marine estuarine reserve at Padilla Bay in Skagit County. And, it is free to visit. There’s a whole world waiting to be explored at this special site, and Education Coordinator Glen “Alex” Alexander takes us on a field tour of the reserve.

Paper or Plastic, or Neither? (See Archived Episode 42 below)
The City of Seattle is moving past the debate of “paper versus
plastic” when it comes to shopping bags and, beginning in January 2009,
will implement a 20-cent fee per bag and begin phasing out the use of
styrofoam containers. What impact might this decision have on the health of Puget Sound
and is this something other communities around the Sound can take up,
too.

Kari Koski of the SoundWatch Program talks about balancing boating traffic and protecting the habitat of our resident orcas. She shares her experiences out on the water during the summer months in the San Juan Islands, and what the SoundWatch Program does during the fall and winter months.

No, not the navigational lights you might see at sea during the evening hours the annual fundraiser auction benefiting Puget Sound, Harbor Lights.
